Rainbows of Love Announces New Project
Rainbows of Love held their sixth annual benefit luncheon at Benvenue Country Club in Rocky Mount on April 7th. The luncheon was organized and hosted by its founders Jan Alston, Amy Allen, and Nancy Belflower. Their new project called "Sweet Dreams for Kids" was announced. This project will raise funds to help continue their mission of providing personalized pillowcases to critically ill children at all hospital pediatric oncology units in North Carolina and two hospitals in Baltimore, MD.
"Sweet Dreams for Kids" is in response to requests for personalized pillowcases to give as gifts. The 2006 Sweet Dreams design is an angel drawn by Angelika Barth, a twelve year old artist from Raleigh and a former patient at Duke Children's Hospital and recipient of a Rainbows of Love pillowcase. The angel is embroidered on the header of a pillowcase and the pillowcase will also be personalized with a name or monogram. The pillowcase will be on display with order forms available exclusively at the newly opened "Abundantly More Boutique" at Amy's Hallmark, Westridge Village in Rocky Mount. Orders can also be placed through the web site by clicking on the "Sweet Dreams Order Form" link above.
The 170 attendees for the luncheon were treated to a short presentation by the founders, music by Mark Crawford Williams and Alli Mitchell, a Talbots fashion show, and drawings for fabulous door prizes. Mark Williams wrote and recorded a song specifically for Rainbows of Love in 2003. This song "Rainbows" was produced as a single and is given to each child in our partner hospitals who receives a pillowcase. For more information on Mark Crawford Williams, go to www.markcrawfordwilliams.com.
Thanks to the American Cancer Society
Rainbows of Love was again awarded a generous grant from the American Cancer Society to help fund pillowcase donations to our partner hospitals, for expansion to the rest of the North Carolina hospitals, to expand to Baltimore hospitals, and to defray some of the cost of the 2006 luncheon. We are so grateful for their continued support and encouragement of our project. Go to the American Cancer Society link to check out the other wonderful things they are doing!
1000th PILLOWCASE!
In June of 2005, we delivered our 1000th pillowcase to a precious patient, Kaelyn, at UNC Children’s Hospital, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Dr. Stuart Gold (Allison’s and Kaelyn’s physician), Allison, Jan, Amy, and Nancy, were there to present the pillowcase to Kaelyn and enjoyed meeting her and her mom and listening to their story. Thank you for making these donations possible!
